I started the year with very good intentions. I drafted a blog post on 3 January, intent on returning to regular posting. But, the post wasn't posted. I changed my mind. I'm still not sure which fork to take. Keep this blog or start a new one. What do you think?
original draft post:
The start of 2011 sees me/us at that proverbial fork in the road. Which one do we take?
After three-plus years as greenolive (avec husband) and dabbling in scarves, handbags & screenprinted textiles and taking a side-step into vintage prints (much more closely aligned with my graphic designer past), I'm making some changes. Greenolive has morphed into vintage prints. But don't worry, there will still be scarves & accessories, but with a greater emphasis on vintage. And the screenprinting is back on the agenda, but again with a vintage flavour.
So, please pop over to the new blog and the new website and follow us down this fork of the road.
And watch out for the new online shop too.
If it were me, I would be inclined to stick with the Greenolive brand. Picasso, the Beatles, Stephen Fry, Kylie and Madonna have all changed artistic direction from time to time without changing their letterhead as well.
Some of their fans don't like change ("I liked your earlier, funnier movies," as the guy said to Woody Allen in "Stardust Memories"), and fall by the wayside. Some newbies will be attracted by the new direction. Provided you remain true to Greenolive's core values, most of your current clients and supporters will stick around to see where your creative journey might lead them. It's a discovery and a learning process for them, too!
Oh, and those core values? From over here they seem to be:
Quality of materials, workmanship and packaging.Rich, elegantly balanced blends of color and texture.A visual style that is strong without being overwhelming, decorative without being fussy.
Plus, practically speaking, it's hard to feed two blogs at once!
