I know you shouldn't, but when the setting is an op shop, in front of the shelves full of books I think its perfectly fine to judge a book by its cover, or in my case, its spine.
When I see a book with spine like the one above, I know I've struck pay dirt. The tattier the spine the better!
Inside there are thick, soft, creamy-coloured pages. Stark black letterpress words, each letter creating a slight texture via its indentation. Big, classic serif fonts. Stylish, vintage linework illustration. Ah, this graphic designer's idea of heaven.
They really knew how to design and make them in those days.
I only ever buy used and battered books to make my stuff with so I always love seeing things like this :)
