I've been finding it hard to sleep lately, and last night was one of those sleepless nights. I'm not sure what exactly is causing the insomnia, but its a regular occurrance, sometimes two consecutive nights each week. I do all the usual pre-bed routine, even spending up to an hour in bed trying to fall asleep. But my brain just won't switch off. It keeps thinking, planning, imagining...
Experience has taught me not to fight it. If I stay in bed I toss and turn for hours, keeping Drew awake. So I now give in, get up, and go with the flow. In the past I would watch late night tv (infomercials!) and spin, knit or crochet. After three or four hours of distraction, my mind was still enough to let me sleep.
Last night, I decided to sew instead. My sewing mojo is back. Our tote bags outsold scarves at last weekend's Daylesford Makers Market, so I decided to replenish our stock. When the house is quite and still, without distractions, its amazing how much you can accomplish. I cut, pinned, sewed, ironed and now have a batch of bags in various stages of completion. Different styles, colours, sizes and fabrics - I just work with the fabrics at hand and let them determine the outcome.
Now, as I write this post, I'm wondering if this is my creative rhythm? A burst of creative inspiration and matching energy? Maybe. Whatever it is, I've learned to go with the flow and not fight it. I can sleep later.
And in case you are wondering, I was in bed AND asleep by 3am this morning.
Sorry about the lack of sleep... but great bags! I hope they continue to sell well.

Going with the flow is great - especially when it results in something so pretty and productive. Have a great weekend. Nic
