After a 6.26am start, a loo break, Maccas for breakfast, and several hours drive, we finally made it to Daylesford on Saturday morning. And we only made one wrong turn the whole journey!
The day was spent at the Daylesford makers market. As it was our first time at the market we didn't know anything about the venue, the other stall holders, the type of market goers, but it was fantastic.
The setting and venue are wonderful. The market is in the Daylesford Town Hall, right in the main street, close to everything. Inside its spectacular – the market was in the main hall which is bordered by a ornate white wrought iron balcony and a stage with a red velvet curtain.
Our position was excellent, on one end of the central row of stall holders, meaning we had the front and two sides within which to display our wares.
There was an amazing selection of stall holders - some which I already knew, others I hadn't discovered. Curly Pops and Twiglet were there, plus Blue ginger, a textile designer; lily loves pearl with lovely organic skincare; and the clunes strangler with recycled textile products.
We discovered that the market goers had a great appreciation for handmade, and we had steady sales most of the morning. The new bags were popular, as were the new button scarves.
With Drew looking after the stall, I managed a quick visit to Lark (even cuter than in the pictures) and the local MS Op Shop. I got there 10 minutes late, it closed at 12.30pm, so I'll have to wait til next month to test the theory that country op shops are better than their cousins in the city.
Afterwards, I managed to scour the local bookseller for vintage children's books (I have a plan...) and scored a fabulous wooden sewing box, some vintage linen and more vintage books at a second hand shop. Next month I'm going to try and check out the rest of the shops.
The weather was glorious and I was reminded why I like Daylesford so much. We'll be back next month, and I think the Maccas breakfast will be replaced by a yummy cooked breakfast at one of the local cafes.
