... also known as step one or following my heart.
After decades of unconsciously preparing for it (I had completed several textile commissions in the summer holidays after grade 12 –1984 to be exact); years of collecting a stash large enough to support it (I worked in the haberdashery department of David Jones while at art college and still have some of the fabric I bought there in my stash); months of dreaming that it could become a reality; weeks of talking about it; and days researching others who are doing it, last Thursday was the day I took my first real step towards creating my new life. As a textile designer/creator. (The label needs work, but you know what it means. Don't you?)
And what was that first step? I went to the craft as a business session organised by Nicki-shell and held at Amitie.
It all kind of fell into place. I found out about it the day before. I had seen some of Amitie's fabric on their blog, and all the crafty bloggers I'd discovered were raving about their stuff. So I could kill three birds with one stone: find out how to get serious about this new life, meet some of these crafty girls, and visit a fab new fabric shop!
The bloggers were right. I didn't have a lot of time before the talk started, but I managed to spy (AND buy!) some great quilting fabric at a bargain price, some fabulous trims and an ergonomic crochet hook. I'm definitely going back there with my sister one Saturday. One when I have more time to browse and more money to spend!
And I met Justine from 62cherry and Nichola from nicki-shell – they were both so friendly, just as I had expected them to be. They are starting a new zine, mixtape and they were looking for contributors.
Oh, and the session was chock full of just the sort of info I needed to take my next step – step two.
You are my first official comment. Wow, I'm a real blogger now! Thanks Anna. I hope you enjoy reading the posts. I'm having great fun planning and writing them.

Thanks for the lovely comments on my blog. I also went to the talk last thursday and it was fantastic. I was sitting next to my boyfriend who came along as well. I'm looking forward to reading your new blog!
